Projects always have to start with ideas. Brainstorms, notes, scamps and conceptual work are the first stage of any design project. Many designers nowadays have forgotten the importance of drawing and start work at the final stage of the process, namely artworking a finished piece on their computer. I always draw out ideas on paper and create scamps and storyboards for projects to get the ideas out there and articulate ideas in a more natural and free flowing visual manner.
I apply a similar process to team building and departmental decisions; It is always productive to identify what improvements can be made, where the company can benefit, how the staff and working processes can be optimised and find the best solution first time around.
