The next big thing? Cadbury saves bored commuters…

Articles & News No Comments

After the move towards projected video adverts on the underground and animated bus stop adverts I had been wondering where the next step would be – and Cadbury may have made it with their interactive bus stop Creme Egg game. The only other similar interactive advert I have seen is a Nokia memory game bus stop advert.

Video of the game (the only video I could find with working embed code is sideways, so please tilt your head to the left now):

Made by Saatchi & Saatchi the bus stop games look simple and fun – in line with the Creme Egg brand.

But I think things like this are this is the tip of the iceberg.

There have been various interactive screens out and about in London for looking up local information and so on – they have basically been computer terminals with internet connection and local directory access. I am not sure permanent wi-fi hubs in bus stops would be easy to implement (due to the stealability factor) but if we could bus stops could be free wi-fi access sites as well as have interactive screens for our local information, timetables and adverts. This is a little way off however, for one they would need more solar panels on the top of bus stops to power such a setup…

In the meantime, you can store a lot of information on a memory card. What about a Lovefilm advert where you can browse a list of top titles as part of the display? or an interactive quiz to advertise that Xmas’s edition of Trivial Pursuit? A ‘make your perfect holiday’ screen where you an move elements about on a beach to make the perfect scene to advertise how personalised you can make your trip with Expedia? More demanding (memory and power wise but still possible with a small unit), you could have videos of new film trailers (with stop, pause, skip, play etc controls)… The possibilities for making bus stops fun for children is also pretty obvious here.

If they can be made pretty vandal proof this could be a great new interactive medium – after all, you do have a captive audience…
